As a missionary kid, Rachel Moore grew up in Malawi, South Africa and Kenya, and traipsed through much of Europe. Now living in Houston with her husband and two daughters, she negotiates research contracts and indulges her passion for exploring the world by writing historical fiction.
Her first novel, A Trail of Waves, placed second in the 2008 Genesis competition. Set in the African interior of 1895, it tells the following story:
Torn between two cultures, Isabel Salazar belongs to neither. For she is descended from European colonists and African chiefs. When her Mozambique plantation is burned, she must flee her father’s murderer and seek a place of her own.
Scottish trader, Adam MacKinnon, discovers the exotic woman disguised as a common villager, in fear for her life. Together, they journey north toward a safe refuge, but their path is fraught with life-threatening encounters. And perhaps most dangerous of all, is the lure of their growing love for each other.
From humble village to colonial estate, from steamship to slaver’s prison, A Trail of Waves tells the story of family secrets, of challenged love, and a search for God amidst suffering.
Rachel is currently at work on a second novel.
